The University of Aberdeen has been working on an underwater laser cutting system (UWLC) since 2008. In 2017 Proserv joined the project to provide operational, deployment engineering expertise, and commercial outlet for this technology. In developing this underwater laser cutting technology with Proserv and the University of Aberdeen, the IP will be retained here in the UK along with the jobs related to the manufacture, deployment and ongoing operation of the equipment.

This project will address aspects of deep-water intervention and decommissioning, where technology, such as AWJC, is limited at depths greater than 300m. Integration of a laser cutting system with an ROV has the potential to address the cutting and ablation market bringing new capabilities and services for pile, wellhead and conductor removal in challenging conditions.
