Innovative subsurface technology is key to unlocking the remaining 20 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the UK North Sea.
Launched in February 2019, the Subsurface Solution Centre aims to develop new, cost-effective solutions that are fully aligned with the industry’s major technology challenges - including revitalising exploration, seeing clearly under the seabed and unlocking new developments – to maximise economic recovery from the UKCS.
This will be delivered through three strategic focus areas:
- Discover more – provide data access and analytics, reduce exploration lifecycle time and cost, support an enhanced portfolio of prospects and leads and drive the discovery of economically viable resources.
- Develop more – reduce subsurface uncertainty and transform discovered resources into recoverable reserves – achieving the MER UK goal to develop up to 5.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent from new and marginal discoveries by 2035.
- Recover more – improve recovery from our developed fields by up to 2.1 billion barrels of oil equivalent using automated field management, enhanced oil recovery and 4D seismic to improve displacement, sweep, stimulation and drainage.
An initial meeting has been held with members to direct key areas of focus, which has formed our 'Call for Ideas' - click here to find out more.
