Global Design Innovation - Integrity management digital twin

Project summary

Global Design Innovation (GDi) has two projects which have the potential to transform asset integrity management. The first project will use cutting edge laser technology to develop a 3D, 360° digital twin model of the asset that will provide a single source of all asset integrity information. It will provide real time updates and allow engineers to enter, view, manipulate and manage all asset integrity information without the need to generate reports. The second phase of the project will develop a revolutionary hand-held laser scanner that will deliver fast, accurate inspection data, automatically detecting and categorising defects - generating virtual inspection reports. The use of the digital twin modelling - in combination with a new visual inspection tool - will revolutionise asset integrity and has the potential to save the oil and gas industry £250 million per year.

Potential Industry Value

GDi Digital Twin will allow the effective management of inspection, repair and maintenance work by providing the ability to visualise the overall health of an asset for critical decision making to maintain the assets safely and efficiently ensuring optimum value. It has the potential to save an operator up to £1million per asset, per year, that equates to a total saving of £250million per year for the UKCS.
