Operational resilience is an organisation’s ability to keep generating economic profit through cyclical and structural changes in supply and demand.
The financial crash of 2008 destroyed companies with fragile supply chains. General Motors went bankrupt because it couldn’t cut costs and improve efficiencies when cheap credit dried up overnight. The US government now owns it.
COVID impact dwarves 2008 and has brutally exposed inefficient operations. Hertz went bankrupted through a combination of debt burdens, overstocking and constrained cash-flow. Briggs & Stratton, a US engine and equipment manufacturer, was bankrupted in part because it didn’t (or couldn’t) shift production to more profitable units in time.
Companies that can rapidly develop and deploy resilient operations will outstrip competitors and thrive in 'the new normal'. 85% of supply chain executives in a recent McKinsey survey struggled with inefficient digital operations in their supply chains during the early stages of COVID.
This Tech20 Talk will highlight the resilience challenges that many asset-centric energy companies face and explore how digital innovation can help solve these problems.
