Caragh McWhirr, Innovation Manager, Xodus Group
Energy transition, decarbonisation, net zero - terms that are now commonly seen and discussed in the oil and gas industry. But do people have a common understanding of what they mean? Do people have a good 'gut feel' for what is material when it comes to reducing carbon footprint?
Do you know how production emissions stack up next to logistics activities or next to embodied carbon in materials? As new technology to reduce emissions is considered, there is a new landscape of technologies and terminology to be navigated.
This talk will introduce terminology, present carbon footprint maps for typical types of offshore facilities and allow you to test your gut feel for what is equivalent to what.
New low carbon technology will be introduced and put into context with what is familiar to oil and gas. Size, fuel rates and costs will be compared against conventional technology for offshore power generation. The impact of these technologies on carbon maps will be shown. Philosophical questions will be asked for the audience to think about and discuss afterwards.
