Derek Giles, Business Development Tendering Project Manager, Oceaneering

The oil and gas industry has long called for reliable subsea resident autonomous vehicles to carry out a range of activities, including survey and pipeline inspection. While some challenges remain,  recent advancements in subsea robotics have enabled the creation of next generation, subsea resident vehicles that offer maintenance-free, long duration deployments – think driverless cars of the ocean. So, what are the challenges of navigating the seas? What does the technology landscape look like and what value does the potential of subsea robotics unlock?

Derek's Bio:

Derek Giles currently serves as the Easter Hemisphere Commercial Lead for the Oceaneering survey business unit. in this role, his primary focus is to support activity involving survey operations in positioning, marine construction, geophysical survey and IRM. Derek has worked for a variety of companies including Kongsberg and Fugro where he held positions in operations, management, and commercial/business development. He joined Oceaneering in September 2018 from MG3. Derek has more than 30 years' experience in the offshore industry, starting his career as a survey engineer with UDI in 1986.
