Marianne Wold Eide, Development Manager, Shell UK Ltd.

This Tech20 will cover the annual technology mapping and deployment process for Shell’s upstream activities in the UK.

There are no personnel dedicated to technology development and deployment in Shell’s Aberdeen team. A powerful network of functional experts has been established and they run the annual technology process in addition to their day-to day responsibilities.

This network generated almost 100 million GBP of additional value to Shell through their work in 2018. A key element of the annual technology cadence is the technology mapping sessions where a thorough review of all parts of the UK business is reviewed with the aim of identifying new technology that could either improve safety, increase production or reduce cost over the next 1-3 years. Cost of technology deployment is then included in the business plan for the relevant asset.

We will use Shell’s Technology Catalogue as one source to get an overview of new technology available for deployment. For the UK it is interesting to note that we get most of the new technology we deploy from local vendors and that the UK team is often bringing new technology to the rest of Shell.

By being very particular with the scope for technology we have managed to create a lean process that can be run without significant effort capitalising on the professional experts already working for Shell also using the external network. Come along to this Tech20 and find out more…
