George Riley, Geologist, Scotgold Resources Limited

This Tech20 aims to cover a subject that is often unknown… gold in Scotland!

George will cover historic Scottish gold rushes and past exploration work, including the programmes which led to the discovery of the high-grade Cononish gold silver mine near Tyndrum.

There was a long road to the production of gold at Cononish, including the construction of the processing plant and the mining method, but production is expected in February 2020.

However, what about closer to home – can we find gold in Aberdeenshire?

Well… yes! There is a possibility, but to find out more join this Tech20 where George will explore the prospects of similar deposits being discovered elsewhere in Scotland, and maybe even Aberdeen!

George studied BSc Geology at University College London (UCL), before completing a masters at the Camborne School of Mines (CSM) in MSc Mining Geology. Following the completion of his Master's course, George undertook a three-month geotechnical internship with Ramboll in Leeds. George then worked for Wolf Minerals as a Contract Exploration Geologist. George currently works for Scotgold Resources Limited based in Scotland. As a Geologist George is involved in undertaking the company’s exploration programme in the Grampians of Scotland, in addition to providing a geological input to mining operations at the companies high-grade Cononish mine.
