Transforming P&A through radical scope reduction
With over 1,400 wells in the UKCS predicted to be plugged and abandoned, it has never been a more important time for the industry to transform this process.
Well P&A costs make up approximately 45% of the total cost of decommissioning. Between now and 2025, Oil and Gas UK estimate the cost of well plug and abandonment to be in excess of £7billion. With over 1,400 wells in the UKCS predicted to be plugged and abandoned, it has never been a more important time for the industry to transform this process.
How effectively we, as an industry, deal with the challenge to transform well P&A through the adoption of existing and emerging technology will impact the ability to achieve maximum economic recovery from the North Sea.
A significant opportunity exists to drastically reduce P&A cost by eliminating activities, making them more efficient, or deploying rigless methodologies.
This workshop offers delegates the opportunity to directly influence technology development in this area. During the session, we will present a number of industry supported themes that underpin the opportunity to reduce P&A costs. We will then ask participants to prioritise which of these themes will be selected for subsequent development. The themes selected will drive an open ‘Call for Proposals’ from the OGTC, scheduled for early April 2017.
